I found going to the gym boring and inconvenient. I never went regularly and flushed thousands of dollars down the drain without ever making a significant improvement to my health and fitness. Once a week or less just didn’t cut it.
Then I took up squash.
I played hockey growing up and really loved it. I’ve always thrived on competitive sports and games—wanting to win, and the camaraderie with teammates and opponents. So squash was a great fit for me.
It wasn’t about getting fit. It was about having fun.
Then I wanted to improve my fitness to improve my game. So I started going to the gym regularly.
Suddenly I was working out at least three times a week.
Suddenly I hired a personal trainer.
Suddenly I’m stronger and fitter than I’ve been my entire adult life.
Not only that, but I also have a whole new circle of friends. We play doubles, singles, and compete in tournaments. We push each other to play our best and hardest and have a ton of fun while doing it.
We also have fun off the court with post-game drinks, get-togethers, and spectator sports—live or at our favourite sports pub.
I had no idea what I was getting into when I decided to give squash a try. It just snuck up on me, and changed my fitness game effortlessly.
